MISSING BODY PARTS

Matthew 5:27-30
"You have heard that it was said, 'Never commit adultery.' But I can guarantee that whoever looks with lust at a woman has already committed adultery in his heart. "So if your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose a part of your body than to have all of it thrown into hell. And if your right hand leads you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose a part of your body than to have all of it go into hell.

I need to tell you how I understand the Bible. I do not take everything literally. The scriptures are full of symbols, parables and allegorical tales. With that in mind, I do not believe that Jesus is being literal when he said to tear out an eye out cut off hand. Those were purposefull exaggerations to hammer home his real message. He made his real point at the beginning of the narrative. "Whoever looks with lust at a woman has already committed adultery in his heart." The sin does not originate in the eye our the hand. An eye our a hand can not sin in and of themselves. It is within the heart (mind) of a person where sin begins.

Obviously we can not pluck out our mind. But it can be made new.
Whoever is a believer in Christ is a new creation. The old way of living has disappeared. A new way of living has come into existence. (2 Corinthians 5:17) Rather than removing body parts, have the whole of you made new.
